Jed Dayang and the Alliance for Youth Solidarity (AYOS)

YOUTH leader Juan "Jed" Dayang Jr. urged the youth yesterday to help enlighten the public about the party-list elections to be held for the first time to ensure the attainment of the constitutional goal of equalizing the people’s reperesentation in Congress.
Dayang, secretary-general of the Alliance for Youth Solidarity (AYOS), noted that less than 50 days to the May 11 elections, very few are aware of what the party-list elections is all about. This, he said, threatens the successful implementation of the constitutional provision on party-list representation.
AYOS is among the youth organizations accredited by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to run for a sectoral seat in Congress under the party-list system. According to Dayang, AYOS has by itself taken action to promote public awareness of the party-list system by explaining in various public gatherings the nature, mechanics and the objectives of the party-list elections. " All young Filipinos who are concerned for a balance represenattion of all sectors in Congress should take it upon themselves to enlighten the public about this provision," Dayang said.
He prodded the youth to generate discussions about the party-list polls in their respective communities for a start so that the party-list provision of the Constitution would not go to waste. Dayang, 26, holds a master’s degree in International Business Management (MBA), graduating with highest honors at the Kyung Hee University of South Korea. He has also completed a post-graduate course under the World Leadership Program of the United Nations University Leadership Academy as a U.N. scholar in 1997.
While in Korea, he was the only foreigner to be ever elected president of the supreme student council of Kyung Hee University. During his undergraduate days, he was secretary-general of the San Beda College student council and an active leader of the National Union of Students of the Philippines.
