MAXIMO HIZON

This son of a rich couple decided to fight for the poor when he saw how they suffered while he worked at his father's farm.

He joined the Katipunan and was caught by the authorities and banished to Jolo, where he was imprisoned for almost a year. He later became one of the top revolutionary leaders of Pampanga.

He joined Gen. Antonio Luna in the fight against the Americans during the Filipino-American war. Ordered to recapture Manila from the Americans, he fought the latter in La Loma in February 1899. He captured a block house which he and his forces were able to occupy for a while. But they had to retreat, because they ran out of ammunition.

Along with around 50 men, he escaped to the mountains of Zambales, and from there waged a guerilla war against the Americans until 1900. A traitor helped the Americans find him. He was caught and then banished to Guam, where he died of a heart attack.
