He was known as the "good doctor" in his hometown. He joined the rebel forces during the Revolution of 1896.

As a poet, he wrote a material romance entitled "Adriano." He wrote several plays which were well-loved by the western Pangasinan.

He joined the revolutionary movement during the Filipino-American War. He offered his services for Gen. Antonio Luna who was then the Director of War in the revolutionary government.

He became a member of the General Staff and aide-de-camp of Gen. Luna.

He was at the convent at Cabanatuan, Neuva Ecija when General Luna was assassinated on June 5, 1899. When Gen. Luna wa stabbed and shot by assassins, Roman rushed to the aid of his dying chief. Roman was also stabbed and shot to death.
